Was Harper A Young Liberal?

I was reading up on Stephen Harper in wikipedia, and was quite stunned when I saw it was written that Stephen Harper was a Young Liberal in his Highschool days.
Harper became involved in politics as a member of his high school's Young Liberals Club. He later changed his political allegiance because of the Trudeau Liberal government's National Energy Program (NEP), which he thought was harmful to Alberta's energy industry
I find this surprising, but due to wikipedia's flexability, and I wonder if this is true.

If it is indeed the case, this is quite telling. I think this demonstrates at least partially that the Young Liberals organization is a place for anyone to participate and get involved in politics.

Perhaps more telling is that Stephen Harper might still have been a Liberal if it wasn't for the National Energy Plan.

Yup, it's true - in fact, he's jumped from one party to another - he was also a Progressive Conservatvie for a while but couldn't stand Mulroney and left that.

Notice: he called himself "Steve" in those days?

It's in every biography of the man.

He wasn't just a Liberal, he was a Trudeau Liberal.

Perhaps his parents were Liberal, although Harper has been of many political stripes before.

Need an earlier picture.

This was his U of C days. Harper's pre-conversion days was when he was in Richview Collegiate in Etobicoke when he also competed in Reach for the Top.

Then there was the time his parents sent him to French Immersion at Northlea Public in Leaside.

There are friends of his parents who worked with Stevo's dad at Imperial Oil who can prove that these facts were true.

Check out the biography of him, Stephen Harper and the Future of Canada... it's true, therefore, he can indeed be clasified as a "neo-con"... someone who's a true convert to conservative principles!

Thats ok I still think Im Liberal, sadly the Liberals aren't liberal anymore, their some kind of hippy NDP green party hybrid that doesn't know what it really is, so I have far more in common with the cons these days, with the exception of the social aspect of some people in the party. All left wing parties seem to think that if you have a job your rich....I love that kind of thinking lol

I wonder, was Hitler a liberal before he became a dictator, if so, we know for sure what we have coming to us, if he gets a majority.
