Conservatives Break Another Promise

In the 2006 Conservative Election Platform, viewable here, the Conservatives denounced the Liberal Party for its unscheduled surpluses, and promised the establishment of an independent Parliamentary Budget Authority so as to be able to forecast such surpluses and maximize public dollars.

19 months after being in office there is still no such office.

And today the Conservatives have announced a 14 million dollar surplus, one of the largest surpluses in Canadian history.

If the Conservatives believed the Liberals were wrong in using surpluses as a political maneuver, the Conservatives are not only hypocrites, but liars for not upholding an election promise they had in the first few pages of their platform.

Me thinks you pretest tooo loudly . . . . imagine a surplus higher than they forecast . . . could be they are doing a few things right . . .

Thank goodness they are not taking our money and passing it in brown envelopes across restaurant tables.

I think substantial tax reductions are in order in the new budget . . . guess you'll be against that too!!!

I don't get your point. I'm saying when the Liberals did it, the Conservatives accused them of underestimating the budget to make themselves look good.

Then the Conservatives not only did what they accused the Liberals of doing, but did it to an exagerated extent.

If you still don't understand that contradiction. Understand that the Conservatives lied about establishing the independent Budget Authority.

I think that for me at least, the contradiction is that Liberals are complaining about something the Tories are doing that the Liberals did for years?

Pot calling the kettle black methinks.

Sean, I never concluded it was wrong by Liberal standards, in fact classifying it as right or wrong is arguable. What's fact is the Conservative's perceived it as wrong. Yet the Conservatives not only did it, but broke an election promise while doing it.

I'm not getting mad at the Conservatives for doing the act itself, I'm mad thier doing an act they deemed as wrong, while breaking an election promise.
